MFA Karl Erjavec has conveyed condolences following the earthquake that hit Iran

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Mr. Karl Erjavec has conveyed condolences to his Iranian counterpart Dr Ali Akbar Salehi and to the relatives of the victims following the devastating earthquake that hit Northern Iran, which has already claimed many lives.

Statement by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Mr. Karl Erjavec:

Your Excellency,

It was with great sadness and deep regret that I received the news of the two devastating earthquakes near the city of Tabriz that claimed more than three hundred lives and injured many more. It is also with particular concern that I follow the reports of up to 17,000 people being displaced and in need of temporary shelter.

On this sad occasion, please allow me to extend to you my sincere condolences and to request that you kindly convey the expression of my heartfelt sympathy to the families of all those who have died and suffered as a result of the earthquakes.

I would also like to take this opportunity to commend the National Disaster Management Organization and the Iranian Red Crescent Society for their prompt dispatch of relief, search and rescue teams to the affected area. I sincerely wish that their efforts will bring the best possible results in these dire circumstances.

Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
